5 إدارة الدراسات والتعاون التجاري قسم الدراسات االقتصادية 11/5/2017 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) of GCC Countries Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) is the most important type of foreign investment, as it involves long-term investments that play an important role in increasing the productivity of the economy as a whole and increasing its competitiveness and its export capacity, which is reflected in the GDP growth in general. GCC countries, backed by the strength of its oil and gas resources and its capital reserves, have succeeded avoiding most of the negative effects of the regional unrest. FDI inflows concentrated in a limited number of Arab countries. Both UAE and Saudi Arabia accounted for more than 47% of the total inflows of Arab countries, as UAE topped GCC countries by the share of 55%, followed by Saudi Arabia which came in the second place. The statements issued by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) 2015 indicate that the volume of foreign investment flows to GCC countries amounted to approximately USD 20 billion representing 1.13% of the global FDI, as well as 49.7% of the volume of inflows of Arab countries, where UAE topped GCC countries and the Arab countries in terms of foreign investment inflows, receiving 55% of the investments received by GCC countries, with a value of USD billion, followed by Saudi Arabia with a percentage of 41%, with a value of USD billion, then Qatar, with a percentage of 5%, then Oman, with a percentage of 4%, then Kuwait with a percentage of 1%.
